Interview in Charisma+2 Magazine

Posted by Kaitlyn On August 2, 2010

This month's Charisma+2 Magazine includes a rather in-depth interview with... well, me! Charisma+2 is primarily a company that provides talent for videogame-related events and tradeshows. It is, essentially, a modeling agency for booth babes that know a lot about videogames. The concept is fantastic and the execution is great too.

New Panasonic LUMIX Cameras

Posted by Kaitlyn on July 21, 2010

One of the most exciting things about working as a journalist is being "in the know" before everyone else. In the case of DigitalCameraInfo, I get hands-on time with new cameras before they're even announced. Last week I went to New York and met with people from Panasonic, who gave me the goods on these new point-and-shoot cameras for their LUMIX lineup. The LX5 is especially juicy, giving consumers a replacement for that retro chic LX3 from 2008.

Director's Note: Annie, Get Your Gun

Posted by Kaitlyn On May 7, 2010

This was my first time directing where I hadn't actually selected the show myself. Riverside Theatre Works lost their director at the last minute and I was called in to triage. I must admit that this not a show I would have ever selected on my own, but I'm very glad I had the opportunity to direct it. The music of Irving Berlin and the story of Annie Oakley go together surprisingly well.

Ten RPGs That Matter... to Kaitlyn

Posted by Kaitlyn On April 18, 2010

Some people say that female gamers just aren't unique anymore. "Everyone knows that girls game... what's the big deal?" And yet, I find that the majority of guys are still surprised when I tell them I like videogames. They're even more slack-jawed when they learn how much I play and how knowledgeable I am. Even the mere suggestion that I'm good enough to play on a competitive level is just... unbelievable.

Hey! It's a pink camera. Quite pink, in fact. Fortunately, it's actually quite a good camera if you're looking for something sleek and compact. As a matter of fact, this sexy little thing netted DigitalCameraInfo's compact point & shoot camera of the year.

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX9 (MSRP $399.99) is an impressive camera. With stunning 12.1-megapixel photos, 1080/60i video, crisp touchscreen controls, and a wealth of auto modes, there is very little we can say to insult the TX9. It is considerably lacking in manual image controls, but what it lacks in sophistication, it makes up for in style.

Best digital cameras for every budget

On Thursday, November 18, 2010 0 comments
Every once in a while, we get to do a nifty little article for another news outlet. In this case, it was a year-end roundup for MSNBC. It's a great chance for CCI to get some more exposure and for us to write something a little different than our usual testing detail.

* * *

Whether you're doing some self-indulgent shopping or finding the perfect gift, there are a lot of fancy new cameras this year. We at DigitalCameraInfo.com have dragged dozens of models through the wringer in our ultra-scientific testing labs to come up with the best picks for every budget. These cameras all have two things in common: They take great photos, and mere mortals can afford them.
All my Examiner articles get filed under gadgets, but I'm technically the Boston Girl Geeks Examiner and girl geeks like Harry Potter. I was lucky enough to see the latest at a midnight opening. I know it's cheesy, but I do like the books and I think the movies just get better and better. Beautiful scenic England was the star of #7.

The latest Harry Potter movie opens tonight at 12:01 in dozens of theaters throughout Boston—dozens of theaters that have been sold out of these special midnight showings for weeks. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 is the seventh film in the Harry Potter series and the first half of the final book. Witches, wizards, and muggles of all ages will be lined up to see the first part of the exciting conclusion, but some were not lucky enough to get tickets.

Pentax X90 Digital Camera Review

On Tuesday, November 16, 2010 0 comments
Welcome to my second installment of point-and-shoot digital camera reviews for DigitalCameraInfo. It's definitely refreshing to review simpler cameras, after slogging through weeks of the G2 and T2i reviews. The X90 isn't exactly a camera to write home about, but the review gives you a good idea of the benefits.

* * *

The Pentax X90 is a solid ultrazoom camera, with strong performance and a healthy range of manual control options. The menu and controls are easy to navigate, so even a beginner would have no trouble figuring out how to perform a custom white balance or swap between Aperture Priority and full auto mode. There are a couple of strange button design choices, however, and the narrow grip left much to be desired. This makes the Pentax a definite try-before-you-buy camera.

You probably know Namco as the makers of one of the greatest classic arcade games in history. (Hint: yellow circle thingy chomping on ghosts and fruit.) But they've made quite a few great games and now they're re-releasing them as part of the Namco Generations series. Pac-Man Championship Edition DX is the first entry (out this week), but these two treasures are soon to follow. Now give me Dig Dug!

Pac-Man Championship Edition DX isn’t the only classic title Namco has up its sleeve. Namco Bandai has officially announced its new “Namco Generations” series, to be released on PS3 and Xbox 360. The next two offerings in the series will be Galaga Legions DX and Aero Cross, with future games to be offered periodically.

Olympus Announces E-PL1s in Japan

On Monday, November 15, 2010 0 comments
I love the retro look when it comes to digital cameras. Last year's E-PL1 really fit the bill in this regard and now Japanese customers will be getting the even slicker E-PL1s. With that tiny collapsible lens and the sexy white body... this is one of those cameras that makes me feel like I should buy a camera.

Olympus is introducing a brand new camera into its Japanese PEN lineup: the E-PL1s. The camera has nearly identical specs to the current E-PL1, but the new kit lens is smaller, lighter, and quieter.

Harmonix ready for Dance Central 2

On Friday, November 05, 2010 0 comments
I've started my journey into Examiner.com! Basically, it's a place where I can contribute my writing and get paid a little money for it at the same time. I always tell people that the best way to become a better writer is to write more. So, here's me writing more. Help a girl out and subscribe to my Examiner RSS.

It seems like just yesterday that Boston-based game developer, Harmonix, released Dance Central—a motion-controlled dance game exclusive to Microsoft's new Xbox 360 Kinect. Actually... it was just yesterday. But that's not stopping Harmonix from talking about a sequel.

I'm not sure how I feel about using XBLA for marketing purposes. You know... like releasing small games in anticipation of the real thing? But I do know that I really like the Saint's Row series. So, I support anything that will throw THQ a little more money.

This summer, we found out about Saint’s Row: Drive-by: a spin-off game for XBLA and Nintendo 3DS. After months of speculation, THQ’s Danny Bilson has revealed that the company’s plans for the game have changed—for the better. The upcoming title for XBLA is set to contain completely new content and gameplay mechanics separate from the main Saint’s Row franchise.
